چکیده

SnO2 is an abundant, low cost, natively n-type, wide band gap oxide, which can achieve high conductivities due to facile donor doping. Realization of a p-type SnO2 would, however, open up many new avenues in device applications, and has become a major research goal. Previous experimental and theoretical studies have proved inconclusive, with the p-type ability of SnO2 being both supported and questioned in equal measure. In this study we use state of the art hybrid density functional theory to investigate the nature of intrinsic and extrinsic p-type defects in SnO2. We demonstrate that all the ptype defects considered in SnO2 produce localized hole polarons centered on anion sites. We calculate the thermodynamic ionization energies of these defects, and demonstrate that an efficient p-type SnO2 is not achievable.

Posture-induced changes in peripheral nerve stiffness measured by ultrasound shear-wave elastography.

INTRODUCTION Peripheral nerves slide and stretch during limb movements. Changes in nerve stiffness associated with such movements have not been examined in detail but may be important in understanding movement-evoked pain in patients with a variety of different musculoskeletal conditions. METHODS Shear-wave elastography was used to examine stiffness in the median and tibial nerves of healthy ...

Combined intravoxel incoherent motion and diffusion tensor imaging of renal diffusion and flow anisotropy.

PURPOSE We used a combined intravoxel incoherent motion-diffusion tensor imaging (IVIM-DTI) methodology to distinguish structural from flow effects on renal diffusion anisotropy. METHODS Eight volunteers were examined with IVIM-DTI at 3T with 20 diffusion directions and 10 b-values. Mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) from DTI analysis were calculated for low (b ≤ 200 s/mm(2)...

Modified olfactory training in patients with postinfectious olfactory loss.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Patients with olfactory dysfunction benefit from repeated exposure to odors, so-called olfactory training (OT). This does not mean occasional smelling but the structured sniffing of a defined set of odors, twice daily, for a period of 4 months or longer. In this prospective study, we investigated whether the effect of OT might increase through the use of more odors and ext...

Inhibition of Polyamine Uptake Potentiates the Anti-Proliferative Effect of Polyamine Synthesis Inhibition and Preserves the Contractile Phenotype of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells.

Increased vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation is a factor in atherosclerosis and injury-induced arterial (re) stenosis. Inhibition of polyamine synthesis by α-difluoro-methylornithine (DFMO), an irreversible inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase, attenuates VSMC proliferation with high sensitivity and specificity. However, cells can escape polyamine synthesis blockade by importing p...
